City of Toledo's pothole goal: Crews are on track to exceed 50,000 filled in 6 weeks

There are 3 times as many crews as usual working to meet the goal of 50,000 potholes in six weeks

TOLEDO, Ohio — It's been less than a month since an emergency plan was put in place for the City of Toledo to fill more than its goal of 50,000 potholes in six weeks.

As of Saturday, the city has already filled 45,000 potholes since the program was announced at the beginning of May.

Michelle Spradling lives on a part of the street her neighbors refer to as "the curve."

They say it's covered in potholes, and they become unavoidable because of the sharp turn.

"You have people that are flying around the curve and if you've got people that hit a pothole while flying around the curve, i have to worry about whether or not they'll hit my car if it's parked on the street," Spradling said.

Spradling lives in the 43606 ZIP code,  near Ottawa Park.

If you take a look at the city map updated every day showing where road crews went,  it's the big blank area in the middle.

Many other areas of the city are striped with green, showing roads that have been examined and potholes fixed.

Now, Spradling and her neighbors are waiting for their turn.

To move repairs along faster, city crews have been pulled off alleyway fixes and tree maintenance to get it done.

We've ridden along with crews making those street repairs using hot patches and a machine called the Durapatcher.

There are three times as many crews out as normal. They are divided into four zones, traveling ZIP code to ZIP code. Even with that effort, there are just some neighborhoods that have had to wait a little longer than others.

When asked if she'll be happy to see those crews making their way down *her street, Spradling said, "yes, definitely!"
