BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — When there's something strange, in your school, who you gonna call? Bill Murray!
At least, that's what leaders of Bowling Green's St. Aloysius School did anyway.
On Thursday, the famous actor took over the elementary school's virtual morning announcements.
"Good morning, cowpokes. I'm Bill Murray. I'm just another doofus calling to say good morning to you," he said in the video. "But this is kind of special, because its the last day of school; very special."
Murray then gave students an assignment: he asked them to grab a piece of paper and write down what they thought about their classmates and what they learned about them throughout the school year. He told students to write and just see what comes out, encouraging them to think about what it's been like to learn from home - away from friends and teachers.
"It's a year like no other. No one at St. A's has ever had a year like you had," Murray said.
Murray instructed students to stand up at the end of the day and read what they wrote out loud to themselves. When they are done, Murray said students should rip their paper to shreds, throw it in the air, run the water in the sink or otherwise creatively dispose of it.
While he acknowledged the school year has been strange and difficult, Murray reminded students that they will always have each other.
"Soon you're gonna go outside. You know, you'll be out in the summer time and you'll see your classmates, and some of them will be your good friends and some will be just your classmates," Murray said. "But, the one thing you have in common is that you are the lions and the lionesses, and the lions and lionesses are jungle royalty so you can pound that into each other and keep that forever."
Murray told the students than when he was in school, they started each morning with a prayer, before reading aloud St. Francis of Assisi.
"But don't worry," he said, "It's the short version."
Following the prayer, and just before the video's end, Murray sent students off with these words:
"Have a great day. Have a great summer. Have a great life."
