Akron police searching for vehicle involved in fatal hit-and-run motorcycle crash

Police are looking for a maroon vehicle they say left the scene of the crash.

Police in Akron are searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that also involved a motorcycle.

Police say they were called to the 500 block of E. Tallmadge Ave. Sunday night. When they arrived, they found a motorcycle carrying two passengers had been hit.

Akron Police say the motorcycle was traveling westbound on East Tallmadge Ave. at a high rate of speed, when it hit the side of a maroon vehicle. They believe the maroon vehicle was pulling out of the parking lot of the Save-A-Lot store on E. Tallmadge Ave. at the time of the crash.

The 26-year-old female passenger on the motorcycle was ejected. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the motorcycle, a 21-year-old male, struck a utility pole and was killed on impact. 

Police say the maroon vehicle left the scene of the crash. The investigation is ongoing and the name of the victim has not been released yet until his family is notified.

Akron Police are asking anyone that may have been in the area at the time of the crash, or anyone who may have information about it, to call the Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490  or 330-375-2Tip. Tips can also be submitted to the Summit County Crimestoppers at 330-434-COPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
