Bar, restaurant owners in downtown Toledo asking for extended refreshment areas

Some bar and restaurant owners on Adams Street say they'd like to close off some targeted street areas to serve more customers.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A group of bar and establishment owners on Adams Street in downtown Toledo are asking the city to expand their hours and limits for the outdoor refreshment areas.

This includes  Zach Lahey, the owner of Manhattan's Pub'n Cheer, who would like to serve more customers.

He says right now, the temporary reinstatement is from noon until 10 p.m. but he would like it to return to the original hours which is noon until 1 a.m.

Lahey also says establishments would also like the opportunity to close off some targeted streets in order to designate them for outdoor refreshment areas.

"Several of the establishments within the outdoor refreshment areas, they do most of their business within 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. So we need to give them the opportunity to make as many sales as they possibly can. We're all very much struggling and just because we've made it this far, doesn't guarantee that we're gonna be able to survive," Lahey said.

Lachey says the establishments are meeting with city leaders on Wednesday to discuss any flexibility moving forward.
