Is it really safe to wear a mask?

A local doctor demonstrates what wearing a mask does to your body.

CLEVELAND — Dr. Steve Shein is Chief of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. He's treated children with COVID19 who've needed to be placed on ventilators. So it's difficult when he removes his protective gear and walks out of the hospital to hear people calling the virus a "hoax" or refusing to wear masks because they think they may be dangerous.

As a doctor he wears masks every day for hours. In his case, the heavy duty N95 respirator masks.

So after seeing a number of videos on the internet claiming that masks cause you to inhale your own carbon dioxide and limit oxygen, he decided to use technology to prove them wrong.

He hooked himself up to a heart monitor and a trans cutaneous monitor to check the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in his blood and to see if the mask would cause them to change.
