Findlay's Riverside Pool to open June 8, with restrictions

No more than 100 pool visitors will be allowed at a time.

FINDLAY, Ohio — People in Findlay will soon be able to enjoy their city pool.

But, there are a few restrictions to deal with as well.

After Governor Mike DeWine's announcement that municipal pools could reopen at the end of May, The City of Findlay and the Findlay YMCA began working on a plan to reopen their Riverside Pool, the only city pool in town.

As operators of the pool, the Findlay YMCA will allow only a maximum of 100 visitors at a time.

Families and groups will be asked to stay together and not intermingle with other pool visitors. All handrails, door handles and chairs will be cleaned hourly.

And most importantly, the pool will no longer share open swim with lap swim or class session, instead only opening the pool to classes in the morning, then open swim in the afternoons.

"Here's where it's going to be available for lap swim and here's where it's open for open swim. And again, just wanting to keep people separated, be able to control those numbers, and make sure that when people are there to use it for a specific purpose, they are able to do so," Findlay mayor, Christina Muryn, said.

They missed the opportunity to open this week, but Muryn says Riverside Pool is set to open on June 8.

And though the limited capacity will not make up for the cost of operations, she says it's important that the community pool is still opened this summer.

"This is a community benefit and many times public pools are not money makers. So, this is something that we are prepared to operate regardless of the capacity," Muryn said.

Another restriction for Riverside Pool is no one under the age of 16 can enter the pool grounds unsupervised.
