KENT, Ohio — The Kent City Health Department confirmed the first coronavirus case in a city resident earlier today.
The resident, a man in his late 60s, is currently in the hospital. The health department is working to identify and notify any of the man's close contacts, to see if they need to be monitored for symptoms.
This case is not related to the Kent firefighter who tested positive for the virus over last week, who the heath department says has recovered.
Health officials say the city and the community have been preparing to handle coronavirus cases. To help keep the virus from spreading, the KCHD recommends using preventative measures and social distancing.
Kent residents can find more information on the community response on the KCHD website.
As of Tuesday the state of Ohio has confirmed 564 coronavirus cases, with 145 people hospitalized.
