HANCOCK COUNTY (WTOL) - You're going to be paying more every time you buy something in Hancock County. Commissioners raised the county sales tax by three quarters of a percent on Thursday.

Money will be split evenly three ways: construction of a new court building, flood prevention and county operations.

"Even with this quarter percent, severe cuts and elimination of some services will be announced in the coming weeks," said Ed Ingold, Hancock County commissioner.

The taxes take effect on Jan. 1. The county will start collecting revenue on April 1. But residents will vote on renewing the taxes next November.
