A new senior living community is set to be built in Toledo.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - A new senior living community is set to be built in Toledo.

Valley Bridge senior house development will be constructed in the Reynolds Corner neighborhood in west Toledo.

The development will include 70 units, with 50 percent of those unites receiving rental assistance through Project Based Housing Choice Vouchers from the Lucas County Metropolitan Housing Authority.

A healthy aging clinic with assistance from the University of Toledo Medical Center will be on site .

Dozens of community members were on hand for the groundbreaking at Friendship Baptist Church on Tuesday, including Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson.

Duane Tisdale, senior pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, says the construction will take 8 months to a year.

Pastor Tisdale also says that taking care of our seniors is what Jesus teaches us.

"For the seniors in our community, it is known that when we honor them, we get promised to live long. That is the purpose of what we're doing today, to honor all seniors in our community," Pastor Tisdale said.

Valley Bridge will be developed by National Church Residences and Friendship New Vision, Inc.

FNVI has a long-term goal of developing senior housing in light of the growing senior population in Reynolds Corner.

Although it was raining at the groundbreaking, Pastor Tisdale said that was a good omen, a blessing from God as they start a project that has been years in the making.

Any seniors interested in living at Valley Bridge will have to go through an application process through Friendship Baptist Church.
