3 students located with magazines, no weapon, after reports of armed subject at Akins High School

District police said students and staff are safe, and parents are asked to refrain from coming to the campus.

AUSTIN, Texas — Three students have been identified and located after reports of an armed subject at Akins Early College High School Wednesday morning.

The Austin Independent School district police said it received reports that three students were seen in a bathroom with a weapon. Those students were quickly identified and located in class and, according to police, one of them was in possession of two magazines, one of which was loaded with ammunition. Police clarified that no weapon was found and no shots were fired.

The incident, which was first reported around 10 a.m., was eventually de-escalated from lockdown to hold. District police will continue investigating.

AISD Police Chief Ashley Gonzalez said there will continue to be a police presence at the school this week as the investigation continues. Police said 18 officers responded to the incident.

When asked if the students are in custody or could be facing charges, Chief Gonzalez said the investigation is continuing and they will not be in class on Thursday.
