Driver killed in crash after fleeing police in stolen Porsche

Police attempted to pull over a Porsche with stolen tags multiple times before it collided with an SUV. The SUV then flipped onto its side and took out a utility pole.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Highway Patrol says a reckless driver of a stolen sports car caused a deadly crash in South Toledo. It happened just before 11 p.m. Thursday at Western Avenue and Hawley Street.

A stolen white Porsche driven by an unidentified driver was going eastbound on Western. A black Chevy Equinox, driven by 47-year-old Dawn Curtis, was traveling west bound on western and tried to go left.

The Porsche going well over the speed limit crashed into Curtis' SUV, pushing it into a telephone pole. The Porsche then burst into flames as the Equinox came to a rest on its side.

Both the driver of the Porsche and Curtis were taken to UTMC.  The driver of the Porsche later died there.  Curtis is in critical condition.

Troopers say they tried to pull over that Porsche twice, but the driver refused to stop. Officials say he nearly caused several other crashes prior to the one that led to his death.

Highway Patrol says the Porsche and its license plate were reported stolen from Alabama.
