TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Police are investigating a man's death that appears to be the result of an accidental gunshot he suffered after fleeing the scene of an alleged domestic dispute.

On Wednesday morning, police were called to the 5100 block of Norwich to an alleged domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, officers saw a male identified as a suspect and another male talking outside of the building. As one officer approached the suspect, the second male took off running across Norwich between two houses, the police report says.

The arresting officer had the suspect detained and did not give chase.

As the officer prepared to put out the description of the man who ran, he heard what sounded to be a gunshot.

Two more officers who arrived to search for the man who ran discovered his body in the backyard of a residence in the 1100 block of Westgate.

The man had a gunshot wound to his chest and it appears he accidentally shot himself while running from the scene on Norwich.

The incident remains under investigation.
