A heavily damaged Monroe County Sheriff's Office animal control vehicle is seen after a crash sent its driver to the hospital after it was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light on June 4.

MONROE, Michigan — Members of the Michigan State Police Department are looking for more information in relation to a three-vehicle crash resulting in the death of an animal control officer.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 4 at the intersection of South Custer Rd. and Raisinville Rd.

According to police, animal control officer Darrian Young was driving a Monroe County Animal Control Division vehicle southbound on Raisinville Rd. crossing westbound M-50. At the same time, another driver, who is suspected to have been involved in an earlier hit-and-run, ignored a red light, drove straight into the intersection and struck Young's vehicle directly on the driver's side. The two vehicles then hit another car that was waiting to turn.

Young was transported to the hospital. She died the next day as a result of her injuries.

The at-fault driver is described as a 44-year-old woman from Hudson, Mich. She sustained serious injuries.

The at-fault driver was allegedly seen driving recklessly in the area prior to the crash.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the alleged reckless driving to contact the Michigan State Police Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a black 2014 Dodge Caravan with no license plate. According to police, at some point prior to the fatal crash, the vehicle sustained front end damage.

Business owners in the local area are asked to review their surveillance footage from June 4 between the hours of 7:30 and 8:10 a.m., to see if their cameras could have captured the suspect vehicle prior to the crash.

Michigan police say the vehicle was seen in the area of Telegraph Rd., south of M-50 to Dunbar Rd. The suspect then, allegedly, ran a vehicle off the road on Laplaisance Rd, at E. Dunbar Road, before fleeing to I-75 and S. Otter Creek.

The last known location of the vehicle immediately prior to the crash was E. Front St. at St. Michael Church.

For those who wish to help Young's family, a GoFundMe has been created. In just one day, it surpassed its $10,000 goal.

A "Rona Run" fundraiser is also planned for June 14 in Stockbridge, Mich.

A memorial service for Young will take place at 12:15 p.m. with a barrel race to follow. A donation will be made following the event to the family.

This story is developing.
