TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was convicted Monday of shooting his neighbor during an alleged argument in February in west Toledo.
Jesse Crowell, 48, entered an Alford plea and was convicted of felonious assault. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 16.
According to Toledo police, Crowell shot his 53-year-old neighbor multiple times in the 1800 block of Stahlwood Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. on Feb. 21.
Following the shooting, police said the victim sustained "possible life-threatening injuries." According to TPD, Crowell was taken into custody without incident after the shooting.
An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt. A defendant entering an Alford plea agrees to be found guilty without admitting they committed the crime. The defendant acknowledges there is enough evidence against them to be convicted. It is often entered to avoid a greater penalty and is treated as a guilty plea.
