Way Public Library to reopen to the community beginning July 1

PERRYSBURG, Ohio — The Way Public Library has announced they willl be reopening their doors for the first time since March 16. The reopening date is set for Wednesday, July 1. 

While the library has stayed quite busy during the closure, offering many online resources and programs as well as curbside pick-up, focus now shifts toward reopening the physical location safely for the public and members of staff. 

In a Facebook post, the library linked a guide detailing the new safety protocols that will be in place upon reopening. Face coverings must be worn by all staff and patrons over the age of 3 while inside the building. If you are unable to unwilling to wear a face covering, digital services and curbside pickup will still be available.

Plexiglass shields have been installed at the service desks and frequent sanitizing and cleaning will take place. The library also has visual social distancing reminders and has opened space to encourage further distancing. Hand santizer stations will be accessible and staff has received extra training as well.

Building occupancy will be limited to 60 people. The Quiet Study Room has also been closed to quarantine library materials and the lower level of the library is off limits.

A limited number of computers will be available for public use, limited to 90 minutes per person per day. An additional 90 minutes is allowed if no one else is interested in using a computer.Computers will be sanitized after each use. WiFi remains free and available in the building and most of the parking lot.

Printing, faxing, and copying services will also be available.

The library encourages usage of the exterior book drops to return items to the library, or one of the book drops just inside the library's vestibule. The books and items are quarantined for four days after being returned before they are returned to shelves.

Story times and community events, as well as the Summer Reading Club, will remain online. 

The new temporary hours for Way Public Library beginning July 1 are:

  • Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Saturday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., the library is reserved for those 60 and over and anyone who is immunocompromised only.
