Go 419: Top 11 things to do in and around Toledo this weekend

Life has been different lately, and its been a while since we've gotten to experience the city we love and live in. Time to remember what it's like to Go 419.

TOLEDO, Ohio — You may be getting a little stir crazy at home but luckily we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. Keep reading to see the Top 11 things you can do to Go 419, even if you don't actually "go" anywhere.

THURSDAY

Night Flavors: Market & Cafe | Heart Gallery and Studios | 4 - 9 p.m. 

While some of us here at WTOL been working from home, one of the things we've missed the most have been all the sights, sounds and tastes of the Glass City. If you're right there with us, then get out Thursday night for Night Flavors. This event provides you with an opportunity to do what you've been missing--the ability to experience downtown while shopping for locally produced food and home goods. 

This is also the introduction of Toledo Flavors food tour which will offer local residents a taste of Toledo throughout the summer on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Rosie's Rolling Chef Sylvania Pop-up | 5929 W Sylvania Ave  | 5:30 p.m. 

Well, it's almost the weekend - not that it hardly matters right now (what day is it again?) but maybe you don't feel like cooking. I have the perfect solution! Rosie's Rolling Chef will be doing a pop-up with their popular food truck and you won't want to miss out. 

They will be rolling out on the corner of Sylvania & Holland-Sylvania and there you will have the chance to snag all your favorites: their famous Hot Mama Bread, lobster mac, lamb chops, and more. 

If you can't make it out Thursday, they will be there on Friday, same time and location.

Virtual Stretching & Strength Training | Virtual | 6 - 7 p.m. 

Has working from home have you feeling a bit stiff? Thursday evening, stretch it all out. Join Paulette's Studio of Dance virtually for an hour of stretching and strength training. 

The class is $10, will be held on zoom, and you will need to pre-register.

FRIDAY 

Put-in-Bay Memorial Day Weekend Bash | Put-in-Bay | Friday - Monday

For many of us, Memorial Day weekend is the kickoff to summer, and what better place to celebrate than Put-in-Bay! This is one of their most popular weekends and for good reason--school is ending and their season is beginning! You can expect their most popular entertainers with multiple shows. 

There will also be a demonstration of Historic Firearms and the park’s Carronade by park rangers & volunteers.

Back to the 90's Virtual Trivia | Virtual | 7 - 9 p.m. 

Think you know a lot about the 90's? Bummed about another Friday night at home? Test your 90's trivia knowledge in your pajamas with this virtual 90's trivia event! The Birchard Public Library in Fremont is hosting this online. You will be able to play in teams and you must have a secondary form of communication (such as group text message, Facebook messenger, etc.) to make things easier.

SATURDAY

Curbside Bloody Mary and Mimosa Bar | Kora Brew House and Wine Bar | 8 a.m. 

I know you've been missing your weekend brunch and of course the best part--the Bloody Mary's and mimosas. Now, you can grab yours to go. You can get a Bloody Mary with all the fixings you love and they have 3 different types of mimosas. You will need to order food along with that.

Beers & Booty Shaking Class at EBW | Earnest Brew Works  | 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

A fitness class with beer breaks? Sign me up! This is a monthly cardio dance fitness class by Turn Up Toledo, held at Earnest Brew Works... and yes you really will get to drink during class. Now there is no excuse, you won't have to pick between working out and enjoying some cold brews. 

This class is $10, signing up ahead of time with EBW is best, but you can come the day of if there is still room in the class. You can pay the day of, but pre-paying is ideal.

The Scally Brothers - Live in Concert | Virtual | 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. 

There has been some awesome online concerts during this quarantine and Saturday night will be no exception. The Scally Brothers teamed up with Central Catholic High School to livestream a concert on Facebook live. 

Between songs expect some fun, they plan to share stories and be giving away some free Scally Brothers merch!

SUNDAY

Zen Meditation for Beginners | Virtual | 10 a.m. 

This quarantine might have you feeling a little less than zen, but we have a way for you to find your center and not even have to leave your home. The Buddhist Temple of Toledo is hosting a series of zen meditation classes and they have come at a perfect time. 

Have you felt intimated or didn't know how to start a meditation practice in the past? Then this workshop is for you, as it is aimed for beginners.

Religion event in Holland, OH by Buddhist Temple of Toledo on Sunday, May 24 2020

Workshop: Intro to Crochet | Handmade Toledo | 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.  

Now is the perfect time to take up a new hobby that can easily be done at home. If you've been looking for a way to stay creative while staying home, crocheting could be for you. Over at Handmade Toledo, you can give it a try, learn the basics and leave with all you need to get started. 

The workshop is $30, all supplies included and all skill levels welcome.

Cat Fest | Bier Stub | 12 p.m. - 11 p.m. 

Sunday night, head on over to Bier Stub to celebrate the life of Cat Lambert and raise awareness for domestic violence. Five years ago, Cat died from injuries sustained due to domestic violence and every May, supporters have gathered for Cat Fest. 

There will be some great live bands, a 50/50 raffle, and a cornhole tournament, so prepare for some fun a while honoring Cat. All of the proceeds of the night will go to the Beach House and Bedford Twp. Veterans Center.
