LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — On June 23, the Boy Scouts of America will be reaching out to the community for help with a special online event.

The Erie Shores Council of the Boy Scouts of America launched a giving campaign called “Keep the Campfires Burning” on June 1 to help address the financial consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and to support their daily operations and camp facilities.

The council estimates they have lost $507,000 in revenue due to COVID-19, and are hoping over the next six months hope they can recoup their losses.

"It’s an outreach to adults in the community that maybe care and understand what we do for the community, maybe they were involved in scouting at some time in their life and it’s an ask to say “hey support us now for what we’ve done and do for the community and our kids"," said Ed Caldwell, Scout Executive of the Erie Shores Council.

"Keep the Campfires Burning" will culminate in the June 23 “Day of Giving”, which will feature live updates on the council’s Facebook site throughout the day, including flag raising, scout testimonials, camp improvement updates and more.
