DEFIANCE (WTOL) - Defiance residents will have to find a new route for the next year as the Clinton Street Bridge closes for construction on Monday.

The bridge closure was previously delayed for a week due to the extremely cold temperatures and high water levels of the Maumee River.

The bridge was originally going to close on Feb. 18 for about nine months. The bridge is now closing on Feb. 25 for the same amount of time.

ODOT says the bridge closed at 9 a.m. in order to give commuters one last “normal” morning drive.

The plan for the bridge closure has been in the works for three years, according to ODOT.

The new structure will carry four lanes of traffic and will provide better access across the bridge for pedestrians, bicyclists and those with disabilities, according to ODOT.
