TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — North Bay Produce based out of Traverse City, Michigan has issued a voluntary recall of some fresh apple varieties.
The produce company is recalling more than 2,000 cases and two bulk bins of fresh apples due to possible Listeria contamination.
The recalled varieties include McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac and Red Delicious apples.
The recall was issued after a product test revealed the bacteria.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy people affected by Listeria may only suffer short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
North Bay says the produce was shipped between Oct. 16 and Oct. 21. and was shipped to retailers and wholesalers in eight states, including Michigan.
They were sold in plastic bags under the brands Great Lakes, North Bay Produce Pure Michigan as well as unbranded in clear plastic tote bags, white paper tote bags and individually from retailers display trays.

There have been no health issues reported as of yet. Apples bought prior to Oct. 16 are not affected by the recall, and no other North Bay Produce products are affected.
Consumers who have the recalled apples should throw them away or return the apples to where they bought them.
Businesses selling the apples have been notified of the recall and directed to remove any apples still in inventory.
