VeloSano Why I Ride: Personal stories from Team WKYC

Our team shares why they ride in VeloSano.

CLEVELAND — If you ask those around you, you would be hard pressed to find someone whose life has not been touched by cancer in some way.

It is the same for our family here at WKYC. Over the past year, we lost a beloved coworker, photographer Derek LaBeaud, to cancer, and several of our other colleagues — photographer George Payamgis, master control operator Dawn Ermler-Fischer and director Frank Macek — are currently battling the disease.

For many of us, cancer has not only touched our professional lives, but our personal lives as well. And that's why we ride in VeloSano. From grandfathers, to uncles, to other beloved family members and close friends, cancer is something that binds all of us together.

Director Mark Bogden said, "If a bike ride can save someone's life, my family, a friend, someone I don't even know, that's why I ride."

100% of every dollar raised in VeloSano goes toward life-changing cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic. And with so many ways to participate, like with in-person rides on September 11, and virtual participation, which is any activity you want to do at your own pace, anyone can join in.
