TOLEDO, Ohio — Carla Bayron joined the WTOL 11 news team in January 2020 as a court and crime reporter.

Her hometown is Palm Harbor, Florida, which is less than an hour to the northwest of Tampa.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunication. *Chomp, chomp!*

Prior to Toledo, Carla worked in Lansing, Michigan, as a multimedia journalist and anchor at WILX News 10 and WSYM Fox 47. Before that, she was also a Weekend Anchor and multimedia journalist at WCJB TV20 News in Gainesville, Florida, where she won a Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Award for her breaking news reporting. Throughout her career, Carla has covered all kinds of stories including high-profile murder cases and events such as President Trump's 2016 campaign rally in Ocala, Florida, and white nationalist Richard Spencer's speaking appearance at the University of Florida.

Carla became a journalist because writing was always one of her passions. Informing the community is a responsibility she takes seriously, as she knows the power a pen can hold.

When not reporting, she's exploring new places in the Midwest, watching true crime documentaries, obsessing over home decor, writing creative stories, and spending time with her fiance, Nick, and chatty cat, Misha.
