Here's a little more about Chris, in his own words:
I am a weather fanatic and morning meteorologist, living out my childhood dream. I am a huge supporter and leader of our St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway in Toledo. I have been honored to travel on four occasions to St. Jude in Memphis, most recently to accept the award for the 2019 St. Jude Dream Home Campaign of the year award. I've been trusted to bring back share the stories of courageous kids and families in the fight against pediatric cancer.
I was born and raised in Ohio and grew up east of Cleveland in Concord. graduated in 2006 from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and a minor in physics. I was the founder and president of the Ohio University Meteorology Club and a senior forecast supervisor at Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis. I previously worked as a meteorologist in Bismarck, North Dakota at KFYR-TV.
I am a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), and have earned the prestigious distinction as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM #282). To earn this distinction, a person must hold a degree in meteorology, pass a rigorous written exam, and have their on-air work reviewed to assess technical competence, informational & explanatory value, and communication skills. I received an Emmy Award for directing our team weather coverage in 2012 and again in 2019 for coverage and the aftermath of the Ohio Memorial Day tornadoes near Dayton, Ohio in 2019.
I received another Emmy nomination for my coverage and awareness I raised running the New York City Marathon as a St. Jude Hero in November of 2016. I am a determined supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and ending childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. I brought the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway back to Toledo in 2017. Since then, we have raised over $5.5 million dollars for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital! This includes a record shattering $1.6 million raised in 2021 alone. It is an honor to see lives saved and changed forever through such effort and community support. This experience has changed and continues to shape my career and life. I am forever grateful for this tremendous opportunity.
I was recently honored to win the 2018 St. Jude Champion of the Year award in addition to the incredible recognition of accepting the 2019 St. Jude Dream Home Campaign of the year award at the National night of recognition at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memphis. Chris also is the winner of the Ohio Associated Press 2019 award for Best Weathercast.
I love all things outdoors such as camping, hiking, backpacking, biking, kayaking, skiing, golfing and running. I completed the New York City Marathon as a St. Jude Hero in 2016. Most recently, I spent four days and three nights hiking on the Havasupai Reservation near Grand Canyon National park. If you see me out and about, say HELLO!
