UPDATED--Body of missing truck driver found

Friday, March 13 -- The body of a man lost to floodwaters on March 11 was discovered at about 9:25 Friday morning by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Clyde Mayo, 74, of Martinton, Ill., was driving his semi truck on Wednesday when he "got off his route," authorities say. As he attempted to cross the water on CR15 near the Blanchard River, the current swept the truck off the edge of the road. He exited his truck and was overcome by the cold temperatures and the force of the water.
Mayo was found about 900 ft. from the truck in a corn field that was covered by water.
Putnam County Coroner Dr. Anne Horstman pronounced Mayo dead at the scene. An autopsy has been requested to determine the actual cause of death.

PUTNAM COUNTY (WTOL) - The trucker's rig became stranded in flood waters late Wednesday night, March 10.

When rescue crews made it to the truck, there was no one inside. It happened in the area of Putnam County Road 15 and Township Road H-13 near the Village of Continental.

On scene are fire departments, the U.S Coast Guard, the sheriff's department and state troopers, all searching for the trucker who went missing.

They searched by air and by boat, hoping the waters would work with them. "The rate that the river is going down, hopefully we can come up with something here," said the Putnam County Sheriff.

Water is 6-7 feet deep. The river crested at 28-29 feet, though it's well below that now.

"It's pretty fast. Certainly, it's got a lot of power to it," the sheriff told News 11. "We do have a temporary shelter set up. The Red Cross has been assisting us in providing some logistics to us out here."
