German prosecutors file charges against Demjanjuk

GERMANY - The BBC is reporting that German prosecutors have filed charges against an alleged Nazi death camp guard who now lives in the US, and applied for his extradition.

John Demjanjuk, 88, is accused of involvement in the deaths of 29,000 Jews at a camp in Nazi-occupied Poland.

Demjanjuk was sentenced to death in Israel in the 1980s, but was then acquitted and returned to the US.

He denies any involvement in the crimes, saying he was a prisoner of war of the Nazis, rather than a guard.
