TOLEDO (WTOL) - Chris Barringer lost his job back in September "after 28 years at Continental Structural Plastics" and has been looking for a way to supplement his income ever since.

Well, he recently got a message from the Cash Grant Institute in Washington D.C. advertising grants from the government.

It sounded like a great deal so Barringer went to request a grant only to find out that his attempt to make money has ended up costing him.

"They started taking more money out of our checking account: 14.95 here, 59.95 there," Barringer said.

He admits he made a mistake. But he's concerned about others.

The Cash Grant Institute has not responded to complaints from the BBB, and they also have an "F" standard, which is pretty bad.

Also, the government doesn't just give money to people. Just do your research and remember, you don't have to pay to have it done for you.
