Public hearing on income tax proposal

TOLEDO (WTOL) Monday, March 2 is your chance to weigh in on a proposal to raise the city income tax for thousands of Toledoans.

The committee is set to meet inside the council city chambers at 4:30 p.m. For many, the debate involves hundreds of dollars of hard earned money.

The good news is that Mayor Carty Finkbeiner says his plan would raise an estimated $5 million, which would chip away at the $14 million budget deficit. For most, the bad news is the plan would reduce the tax credit for Toledoans working outside the city from 100% to 50%. This would raise taxes for over 19,000 people.

Most of city council is expected to vote 'no' on the new plan. They'll first have the opportunity to hear the people's voice.
