TOLEDO (WTOL) - For the first time, a Toledo father speaks after he tried to kill his three-year-old daughter last year.
A judge sentenced him Wednesday, February 25 for the attempted murder. Thomas Bragg sentenced this father to nine years in prison.
In court, Bragg said that when he's out, he will be back in his little girl's life. He said in court that he loves his wife and that his life is his little girl.
Last July, Bragg and his now ex-wife were separated.
On July 9 at 4 a.m., police say Bragg told his daughter they were going camping and drove his SUV to a vacant parking at Telegraph and Old State Line Rd. They say he attached a hose from his exhaust pipe to the back window where his daughter was sleeping. He was in the front seat, but his door was cracked open.
A passing driver noticed it was suspicious and called 911. By the time police arrived, the toddler had already passed out. We're told she was only minutes from death.
At his sentencing hearing, Bragg maintained his devotion for her. "Being there for the sonograms and for the birth of her -- that will get me through this because this is who I am. This is my little girl. She'll always be in my heart, and I will be back in her life."
