Last night, President Obama gave a speech about the economic recovery. He verified what we already knew: that he's an exceptional performer and speaker and that he has charisma.

Our spirits needed lifting so he tried to talk us out of the gloom. He said that government spending will stimulate growth.

So, he will spend about a trillion dollars on the bailouts, healthcare, Medicaid, education, alternative energy sources -- and to get credit flowing again.

He promised to tax American companies that invest in resources outside our borders. He wants to end tax cuts for the rich.

He wants to do all of this and much more and still cut the budget deficit. His policies promise a lot.

His policies will cost a lot. Even though there is no way to know if these policies will work, it was still a heck of a speech.
