WEST TOLEDO (WTOL) - Fire crews were on the scene of an apartment fire in west Toledo Tuesday, February 24.
It broke out around 10 a.m. in the 800 block of Underwood Rd. near the University. There are no injuries, and fire crews did get there quickly enough to contain the fire.
The apartment building is an old home that's been broken up into six units. The battalion chief tells us the fire started in one unit's heating system and spread to the unit directly above it. The tenants in those two units were not home at the time, but there were people in the building.
We talked with one of the women who had to scramble to get out. "I was sitting in my bed just watching TV. It was already engulfed before the fire department got there," said Shawanna Grays.
The battalion chief did tell us there is some fire damage in the two units where the fire started and some smoke damage in a few other rooms.
