Israel destroys Hamas homes, flattens Gaza mosque

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - The blistering offensive against Hamas militants in Gaza is in its seventh day.

A mosque known as a Hamas stronghold is among the buildings that have been destroyed today. Airstrikes have also hit about 20 homes belonging to Hamas operatives.

But in an effort to reduce civilian casualties, the Israeli military has been calling at least some of the houses ahead of time to warn of an impending attack. Palestinians and the Israeli military also say in some cases, the military is using sound bombs to warn away civilians before flattening homes with powerful missiles.

A ground attack remains possible, but international pressure for a cease-fire is building and Israel now says a truce would be considered under certain conditions.
