Pakistan says next US leader must stop strikes

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan's prime minister says the next U.S. president must halt missile strikes close to the Afghan border or risk losing the war on terror.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Tuesday the attacks risked turning Pakistan's efforts to fight the militants into a "futile exercise."

He says visiting U.S. Gen. David Petraeus "looked convinced" when he warned him the strikes had negative consequences.

But Gilani says he received no guarantee that the strikes would end anytime soon.
