OREGON (WTOL) - News 11 has learned that a boy was killed early Wednesday morning in an accident that involved an Oregon city bus. The accident happened around 7:15 a.m. on Warner Way near Cardinal Bay in Oregon.

The Oregon Schools superintendent has confirmed the boy was Austin Takacs. He was 11 years old and a sixth-grade student at Eisenhower Middle School.

At a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, authorities addressed the tragedy.

Police report that witnesses say Austin was late to the bus and was running to catch it when he tripped on his bookbag and landed on the street where he was then struck by the right rear tires of the bus.

The bus driver, 68-year-old Rita Grivanos, attempted CPR as did paramedics when they arrived on the scene. Austin was taken to St. Charles Hospital where he was declared deceased. Grivanos is at the hospital "receiving medical attention" at this time for what has been suggested to be emotional trauma, said Oregon City Administrator Ken Filipiak.

"Austin was part of the talented and gifted program. He was well-loved by students, teachers and everyone at the school and in the community," said Oregon Schools Superintendent Michael E. Zalar.

Mayor Marge Brown was present at the news conference.

"Please keep the family in your prayers," asked Brown.

No citations have been issued, and a police investigation is underway.
