Shaheem French was arraigned in court Thursday morning, October 2. He is being held on $1.6 million bond on three counts of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition.
EAST TOLEDO (WTOL) - Toledo police tell us they have arrested a man accused of attacking women on the east side of Toledo with a screwdriver in recent weeks.
Shaheem French was picked up around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1 at the Weiler homes in east Toledo. He was questioned at the Northwest District station on Sylvania Ave. where police say he confessed to the crimes.
Investigators say he will be charged with three rapes and one gross sexual imposition.
Two of the rape crimes happened in the last two months, but a third happened back in 2005. In 2005, a 14-year-old girl was raped in an alley on her way to school. The two recent rapes happened on Madeline St. and Caroline Ave. Both women were assaulted in their homes. The gross sexual imposition charge is for a sexual assault in a home that did not result in a rape. It happened on Church St.
Around 5 p.m., French was transported to Lucas County jail. Police tell us they may be filing more charges.
