A celebration was held Thursday, September 11, for the official gateway project for the Point Place Lighthouse. Elected officials, invited guests and area residents gathered to celebrate the completion of the final phases of the lighthouse project that began in 2003.

Howard Pinkley opened the program by expressing appreciation to all who attended the event, including Lucas County Recorder Jeanine Perry and District 6 Councilwoman Lindsey Webb.

Guest speakers included Lisa Canales, lighthouse project chairwoman, Donna Bargy, past president of the Point Place Business Association, and Mr. Bargy, Darlene Beals, president of the Point Place Heritage Society, Kevin David, Kent Gardam- TMACOG, Clement Cybulski, PPBA president, Gary Miller, and Greg Holewinski, Friendship Center director.

"This project has been a privilege to be a part of and a reminder that dreams do come true, when they are inspired and embraced by others," said Ms. Canales.

Appreciation was given to Steve Day of the City of Toledo for his tireless efforts while working with Mr. Pinkley, and the committee members for the past five years.

Ms. Canales also gave special recognition to Mr. Pinkley, who works with the city, to make sure the grass is cut, and other day-to-day items are taken care of at the lighthouse.

The ceremony was closed by the Rev. Michael DeLong, who offered a prayer of thanks and safety for the Point Place community.

The committee expressed its appreciation to all who helped make the gateway project a success.
