TOLEDO (WTOL) - Arena Football (af2) is coming to Toledo, to the delight of, well, quite a few folks. Indeed, Toledo Arena Sports Inc., which operates the Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye franchises, has acquired an expansion af2 franchise.

The team, yet to be named, will play eight regular season home games per season starting in 2010. AF2 has 28 teams in 18 states.

Toledo Arena Sports, Inc., Chairman of the Board Mike Miller says the organization is "pleased to be part of the af2 as an expansion team. We are also excited about expanding professional sports in the community and continuing our mission of being affordable and fun for the entire family."

Lucas County Commissioner Tina Skeldon-Wozniak is hopeful the move will benefit Toledo.

"This is yet another exciting event the whole family can enjoy. From hockey to football, circuses to concerts, the new arena will bring a wide variety of world class entertainment right here to Downtown Toledo," she said.

Net profits from the franchise will help offset the debt incurred by the arena's construction.
