2 men headed to trial in U-M stainless steel theft

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Two men accused of stealing nearly three tons of stainless steel from a building at the University of Michigan are headed to trial.

Forty-year-old Linden Vann of Wayne and 21-year-old Matthew Reusch of Westland both waived a preliminary hearing on Wednesday and were arraigned in Washtenaw County Trial Court. Both men pleaded not guilty to larceny charges.

Police say the men stole 11 large pieces of steel weighing about 5,900 lbs. on two separate occasions last month. The metal was being used for a research project involving the U.S. Navy. Messages seeking comment were left for defense attorneys for the two men.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30.
