Cockrel names Saul Green as deputy Detroit mayor

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit's next mayor says a former federal prosecutor will serve as his deputy mayor.

Ken Cockrel Jr., who becomes mayor Friday after Kwame Kilpatrick leaves office, says he has hired Saul Green for the position. Green is a former U.S. attorney in Detroit.

Green says restoring faith in city government is a top priority for the Cockrel administration. Kilpatrick leaves office Thursday as part of a plea deal with prosecutors to settle two criminal cases.

He has pleaded guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice and no contest to one assault charge.
