TIFFIN (WTOL) - Students at Heidelberg College are being more vigilant these days after two recent sexual assaults, which have forced campus officials to issue safety warnings.

A woman was attacked and raped last week near the amphitheater in Hedges-Boyer Park, not far from Heidelberg College, police say.

Things got even scarier on campus several days later when a male student allegedly sexually assaulted a female student in a dorm. School officials say that was a case of acquaintance rape. No charges have yet been filed.

Authorities and school officials say the two incidents are not connected. Still, students were sent an email about what happened and were given safety tips to follow.

"I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'd rather our students know what's happening in the community and happening around them. I think they will be more aware of their personal needs," said Dustin Brentlinger, Dean of Students.

Most students didn't know about the assaults and appreciate the warning.

Students are advised to be aware of their surroundings, stay in lighted areas or use the college escort service.

Tiffin Police are also investigating a rape that happened in Tiffin three weeks ago.
