ASHTABULA, Ohio (AP) - Ohio is about to become the state with the nation's longest covered bridge, taking an honor now shared by New Hampshire and Vermont.
On Tuesday, Ashtabula County in northeast Ohio will dedicate a covered bridge 613 feet long. That's 163 feet longer than the previous record holder, a 450-foot bridge across the Connecticut River from Cornish, New Hampshire, to Windsor, Vermont.
A spokesman for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation says in the spirit of the Olympics, his state has no problem with the silver medal.
The new $8 million bridge will be named at Tuesday's ceremony. It's the 17th covered bridge in Ashtabula County, which has more of the structures than any other Ohio county.
