TOLEDO, Ohio (WTOL) - If you re one of the millions of patients who have a heart stint to open clogged arteries, this is a story for you. Having a heart sent doesn't mean you have to sit on the sidelines.

Undoubtedly, being overweight is one of the main risk factors for heart disease. We're taking a look at how fixing your heart can fix heart disease.

At 46-years-old Denise was facing a life of health problems if she didn't change her life style. Joining the Weigh In To Win team helped her drop 30 pounds in 3 months, taking stress off her mind and her heart.

He says Denise could have easily fallen into a common trap, being afraid to exercise because of the stint.

But Kabour says if there was no heart attack, or damage to the heart, there is no restriction  because of a stint.

Patients can go back to normal activity and a normal life within a few days. That's provided they're moving onto a healthier life, like Denise, and received clearance from a doctor.

But changing health habits is crucial to keeping the wire mesh cages open and functioning well in your heart.

"You should never go back to cigarettes. Otherwise you're going to be back again with some other problem," says Kabour.
