Deputy hurt, suspect dead in Ga. standoff

LULA, Ga. (AP) - An hour-long standoff near an elementary school in north Georgia is over.

Authorities say a suspect was shot to death and a sheriff's deputy suffered a gunshot wound in the arm.

Police say the school was locked down after a witness saw a man with a gun walking on a street that runs behind the school. An off-duty officer was called to the scene. The man pointed a gun at him, then fled.

Police say the suspect then barricaded himself inside his RV camper a few blocks from the school. Police say "several" shots were fired.

Authorities don't believe the man intended to harm the school.
