The Toledo City Council showed some much-needed backbone last week. They grilled Mayor Carty Finkbeiner on how he handled the Erie Street Market remodeling.
Led by councilmen D. Michael Collins and Tom Wisniewski, city council members displayed a willingness to challenge the mayor when his staff could not provide acceptable answers to simple questions.
This is new territory. I think it indicates that the whispers are getting louder.
This mayor is a lame duck. Toledo and Northwest Ohio need new leadership. Someone has to step up. The future of this area is in greater doubt than ever before.
I hope city council members and others come to realize that Carty should not set the agenda for a future that doesn't include him.
