(WTOL) - Get ready to be inspired. Weigh In To Win participant Rodney has spent the last three months working hard to change his life.
Three months ago, Rodney stepped into the gym for the first time in years.
Now? "If I don't come to the gym when I'm supposed to, I feel like I've lost something during my day," he tells us.
After 90 days on the program, Rodney is down 45 pounds. YMCA Trainer Renee says the weight loss has allowed Rodney to accomplish his biggest goal. "Since he's dropped the weight, his legs have gotten a lot stronger. He's now able to run, and he could not do that when we first started."
"I'm running a mile and a half," Rodney says, "I'm doing 15 miles and a half on the bike."
That endurance training will get Rodney to his next goal, which is running the Race for the Cure this Fall. Helping him do that is an aggressive weight-lifting routine. "I'm squatting 100 pounds... bench pressing 100 pounds... biceps 80-90 pounds... triceps 80-90 pounds. I'm doing really good."
The hardest part Rodney says is staying consistent with his eating habits and the inevitable plateaus with his weight loss. The scale hasn't budged in two weeks.
But since he's in it for the long haul, he's not worried. "After that, I'm going to continue on anyway until I reach my goal. And after that -- maintenance."
Trainer Renee says, "I think when we're done with this, he's going to be fine. I have no doubt in my mind he's going to reach his goal."
