Toledo City Council meeting sports a tiff

TOLEDO (WTOL) - A confrontation took place Tuesday at the Toledo City Council meeting when Councilman Michael Ashford objected to Mayor Carty Finkbeiner's commenting on an issue before the latter voted.

Carty: "You know I understand why I may or may not always come down here because it seems like when I do, I am treated rather rudely by some members of this council. And I'm going to, since I've been invited to break the tie, and say another word or two, Councilman Ashford. I am going to finish my statement, sir."

While it did go against council rules, the mayor was allowed to continue speaking before his vote.

Ashford responded: "Any type of persuasion that you want to make, let's always follow. I've been on council for six years and everybody that I know has followed the rules except for Carty."

The mayor cast the tie-breaking vote against additional money for the municipal court.
