(WTOL) - Now that our Weigh In To Win team members have the first three months under their belts, the workouts need to work-it-up a bit.
When Heather first started working out with her YMCA personal trainer Todd, she freely admits -- It wasn't pretty. "I would be sluggish and begging Todd to quit," she says.
But now? "I feel healthy. I feel energized. I feel motivated," she says.
Todd designed Heather's first work-outs using a lot of simple weight exercises. "Arm curls, arm extension, leg extensions, leg curls... that kind of stuff," he says, "where it's just one joint being involved in the movement."
Now Todd is kicking it up a notch adding multi-joint and multi-muscle movements like squats. "There's a much greater effect on weight loss and much greater effect in functionality, improvement and maintenance. It's just better overall."
Beyond that, the only thing that will change for Heather is intensity, Todd says. "Attack harder every single day. Every day we go in the gym, we just get a little bit more volume or the same volume quicker."
That will move Heather closer to her goals faster. "I would like to be able to start seeing the muscle that's underneath... to be able to look in the mirror and observe the muscle that's under there. I know it's there, but I would love to start seeing some of that."
Admittedly, she's already seen the results she's always longed for. "I feel like I'm not embarrassed to go anywhere now. I have the energy to go places. We're just off and running. We've done a lot of fun things this summer already."
