Tired of the mess and the rats, she wants some action -- NOW

Reported by Mika Highsmith

Kim Vasquez goes out of her way to keep things up around her house. But she says one property on the 200 block of Hausman in north Toledo is bringing the neighborhood down.

So, Vasquez contacted Call 11 for Action problem solver Mika Highsmith for help.

"There was nothing but dirt. I brought it back to life," Vasquez says about the property she nurtures.

The fact is, Vasquez is taking care of two nuisance properties on each side of her own home, which she takes care of, too.

"I take care of three houses on the same street," Vasquez says. "I just prefer to do it and get it over with.

But while Vasquez does what she can, she can't do everything.

For one thing, there are pests.

"Yesterday my dogs killed 11 rats," Vasquez says, not exactly proudly.

Vasquez says she's been calling the city but that nothing's been done.

The owner, frankly, has a history of not complying with city ordinances. But the city says it will intervene.

If you have a problem with a nuisance property, call the city at 419-936-2020.

And if you have a problem you think Mika Highsmith can help you with, call her at 419-248-1128.
