Eric Kraus was born and raised in Ohio. He went to Minnesota for college and was introduced to the state's outdoors marketing machine, which helped when it came to envisioning a plan for promoting NW Ohio's great outdoors.

"When I came back to Toledo, I realized just how much we really do have to offer in Ohio, specifically northwest Ohio," Kraus says, explaining his reason for designing and creating www.thenaturalresource.com, which uses high level, high definition mapping to quickly locate points of interest you might need while enjoying the outdoors.

"What we encourage people to do is spend as little time as possible behind the computer when they can be outside," Kraus says.

Here's how it works: Suppose you are planning a fishing trip on the Maumee River. You can use www.thenaturalresource.com to find bait and tackle shops, camping grounds near your fishing hole and even the expected river conditions.

For Kraus, highlighting the environment and how much fun you can have in it is more than just a job. He sees every visitor as a chance to spread his passion for Ohio's outdoors.

"Once they start building those experiences and feeling a connectedness, they just have much more of an interest to learn more, pass it on to their kids," Kraus says.
