For those of us feeling the pressure that high gas prices have on family vacations this summer, there are still plenty of opportunities for families to get away and relax in Northwest Ohio. Whether it's a day trip to Cedar Point, a weekend getaway to the Kalahari Resort, experiencing nature at a local park, or learning about the history of the Toledo area, the area boasts many great deals for families to spend quality time together.

A short day trip to Cedar Point to experience the thrills of the roller coasters may be just what your family needs. The Stay, Play and Save and Amusement Stimulus packages are just two of the great deals the park offers. Along with individual one day deals, there are many discounts for families as well. Check out the deals and discounts page at the Cedar Point website.

A trip to Put-In-Bay on the Jet Express may also be a great opportunity. Along with these more well known parks and resorts, Northwest Ohio also boasts many lesser known opportunities for familes to experience.

The Wood County Parks offer swimming, canoe trips, fishing ponds, and camp sites at their various locations. So ditch the pricey hotel and experience nature while spending quality time with your family!

The Toledo Metroparks are a great place to watch a live band, take a photography lesson, or even have a tea break. For more on the different programs and locations throughout the area, check out the programs page of the Toledo Metroparks website.

The Toledo Museum of Art and Henry Ford Museum aren't the only interesting places to learn about the past in the Toledo area. For a list of more museums, such as the American Civil War Museum or the Toledo Firefighters Musuem, check out the Do Toledo website.

If experiencing the outdoors as you learn about history sounds more appealing, take another look at the past by visiting Sauder or Greenfield Village. Sauder Village, in Archbold, Ohio and Greenfield Village, in Dearborn, Michigan give families the chance to learn firsthand about life over 100 years ago.
