Railcar at The Andersons explodes

One worker sustained burns to his arm and face. He was taken to the St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center burn unit with non-life-threatening injuries.

MAUMEE -- News 11 has learned there was a railcar explosion at The Andersons Maumee Complex on Illinois Ave.

An employee was working on top of a railcar when an explosion took place, Deb Crow, The Andersons spokesperson, told News 11. There was no fire.

That worker sustained burns to his arm and face. He was taken to the St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center burn unit with non-life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released.

The Maumee Fire Dept. and life squads answered the call.

The Andersons' internal unit is investigating the cause of the explosion.

Before June 19, 2008, this was the last accident at The Andersons facility on Illinois
