TOLEDO -- A Toledo woman wants to warn you about a stranger who grabbed her and put a knife to her throat as he tried to rape her, she says. The woman tells News 11 it happened around 1 a.m. on Monday while she was walking down Vermaas St. in west Toledo, reports News 11's Lisa Rantala.
Christina Cole says when all of her four cars were disabled, she decided to walk to get a drink. She called her friend when she felt a stranger get too close but says that didn't keep her out of danger.
Cole describes how it felt knowing the man was stalking her.
"At first I was like, okay, fine, he's probably just walking home or something. And then, I turned around again and he was closer," Cole explains.
Seeing the stranger creep closer and closer made Cole step up the pace. But then, without saying a word, he grabbed her hair, put a knife to her throat and slammed her against a fence, she says.
"When he kept trying to put the knife up to my throat, I kept trying to put my arm up in front of my neck," Cole says, noting that she struggled for two to three minutes while he cut her hand, arm, neck, chest and stomach.
She says he cut off her bra and tried to cut off her pants.
"I don't think his intention was to rob me. I think his intention was to rape me," Cole says. "I asked him to leave me alone. I got to get home. I got kids. I got five kids."
Cole says her attacker kept quiet, showed no emotion and finally ran off when he saw the headlights of a passing car. Now she wants other women to know he's still out there.
And Cole wants the man who cut her nearly 20 times to be caught.
"I feel scared to walk around now," Cole says. "I just feel it's going to change me."
"I want him to be arrested and caught because I feel like he don't care and he's just going to do it again," Cole says.
